The Equality Action Project: Activism in the Post-Prop 8 world

In a nutshell: Santa Cruz County defeated Prop 8 handily (71% - 29%), but California didn't do so well.

Marriage Equality Lobby Day workshop - 2/10

Equality California has organized a Marriage Equality Lobby Day in Sacramento on Tuesday, February 17, in which activists (that's all of us) can ask state legislators to support resolutions putting the state on record as supporting repeal of Prop 8. If you'd like to be part of a Santa Cruz contingent - or you'd like to help organize one - email Labris at labrisw@gmail.com.

To prepare local activists for Marriage Equality Lobby Day, The GLBT Alliance of Santa Cruz County will present a lobby training workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 10, facilitated by Gloria Nieto and John Laird.

National Freedom to Marry Day Rally - February 12

National Freedom to Marry Day, celebrated each February 12 since 1999, marks the efforts by the LGBT community and our allies to secure marriage equality for same-gender couples across the country.

This year, Freedom to Marry Day comes while we await the California Supreme Court's ruling; across the country, couples will remind their communities that we're still expecting that our relationships will be honored and celebrated as they deserve to be.

Day of Decision--Santa Cruz County

The California Supreme Court will release its ruling on Prop 8 and 18000 marriages between now and June 3rd. We can't predict the date or the outcome, but we will gather together on the Day of Decision with simultaneous rallies in Santa Cruz and Watsonville.

Join our community and allies from 5-7 pm at the Santa Cruz Town Clock or the Watsonville Plaza. Good news or bad, celebration or sorrow, it's a time for radical acts of love and to recommit to the goal of freedom and justice for all.
